Both the Let It Be and charity album versions were only issued as stereo mixes. The original mono mix created the day of the recording was not previously issued. It was originally a rival to Lady Madonna as the Beatles March 1968 single release. It was recorded in eight takes between February 4th through 8th 1968. The bird sound effects were added later at EMI on October 2, 1969. This track was to accompany 4 other previously unreleased tracks on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack to create an EP but the plans for this were later dropped.
